National housebuilder Taylor Wimpey recently took on no fewer than seven new apprentices to work at its Plumb Park development in Exmouth, Devon, continuing its commitment to nurturing young people in much-needed construction skills.
Richard Harrison, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey Exeter has welcomed on board Ian Perkins, Thomas Wright, Joshua Parsons-Dearing, Max Turner, Kaden Haymen, Matthew Priddle and Conor Moore. All are aged between 18 and 27 and are learning either carpentry or electrical installation, combining full-time work with college tutoring through a scheme devised in a partnership between Taylor Wimpey and Exeter-based PGL Training.
These new recruits have expanded the apprentice team of the housebuilder’s Exeter division to 14, who between them are covering a whole range of skills including site management, carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing.
“Talented apprentices are the future of our production business and we are investing in apprentices to help train the workforce of tomorrow,” says Harrison. “Skilled labourers and technicians are key to building quality homes and we are committed to ensuring that the right amount of trained individuals are brought into the industry.”
