Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is seeking another 15 apprentices to start work with them this September.
With 15 apprentices already on board, the housebuilder will be expanding the team to learn a range of skills at sites in Bristol, Weston-Super-Mare and Gloucestershire. They will be combining working on site with studying at local colleges, with whom Persimmon Homes works closely and where they regularly donate pallets of bricks and timber to aid training.
Glen Fallon, apprenticeships manager, said: “Apprenticeships are the way forward as there is a distinct lack of skilled trades. They offer a fantastic quality of life as apprentices earn as they learn, experience a sense of achievement and provide a solid foundation to successful career progression.
“In our region we currently have 15 apprentices, covering all aspects of trade, from carpenters and bricklayers, to tackers/dry liners and painters. As a business, and apprentice manager, the goal is to retain a direct workforce that will then help to train the next generation.”
Steve Roche, managing director, said: “People might be surprised at the wide variety of roles open to school leavers and those looking to change career. A number of staff started their careers as apprentices with Persimmon Severn Valley and progressed to senior positions with the company.
“Jobs in the construction business are not limited to trades and crafts. Of course, we will always need specialist bricklayers and carpenters to deliver high-quality homes for local people, but there are also career openings in sales, technical, commercial and within our land and planning teams.”
Fallon added: “These young people are starting out on what can be a fantastic career in the construction industry, with lots of opportunities available to them. We will be looking for further new trainees to start later in the year and would urge anyone interested to get in touch.”
