Vistry has secured planning permission for 82 affordable homes on a former industrial site in Northampton.
The housebuilder has also completed the purchase of the site for its project that will be delivered in partnership with West Northamptonshire Council, which will see the disused brickworks and garage on Harlestone Road transformed into a new sustainable community.
The 7.48-acre brownfield site will soon offer a mix of one- and two-bedroom maisonettes and apartments, alongside spacious two, three and four-bedroom family homes. Designed to meet the needs of local families, including those on lower incomes, the development boasts strong links to the town centre and nearby schools while preserving the area’s mature trees and woodland.
Vistry says that the scheme will demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, with all the houses to be constructed using modern methods of construction, using timber frame panels produced at the Vistry Works factory in Bardon, Leicestershire. This will improve the sustainability and speed of the construction process, and aim to reduce disruption for the local community. Each home built using these panels emits 14,460kg CO2e less than a traditional brick-and-block house.

Site clearance and demolition work will start in the coming weeks, with the first residents expected to move in in 2027.
