Berkeley’s Beckton Riverside plans in Newham have been approved by City Hall.
The 3,000-home scheme will see the redevelopment of the former gasworks site in Newham. The plans put forward by St William, part of the Berkeley Group, for phase one of the regeneration were initially approved by Newham Council in 2025, but, due to the size of the overall scheme, the outline application was called in by City Hall in April.
The first phase of the project will include the remediation of the 30-acre site, strengthening of flood defences and upgrading local infrastructure. In total, the new neighbourhood will include 2,900 new homes, new community facilities, a riverside park and several public spaces.
Jules Pipe, deputy mayor for planning and regeneration, said: “Having carefully considered the application and the views of the local authority, supporters and objectors, as well as hearing from the developer, today I approved the proposals for Beckton Riverside in the London Borough of Newham.”
