Vistry Group extends partnership with Inspired Villages for second phase of Bedfordshire scheme

Vistry Group has announced the extension of its partnership with Inspired Villages with a new deal to build 54 additional apartments at the award-winning Elderswell Village in Bedfordshire. This second phase of development will provide much-needed additional housing within a supportive community for people over 65.

Elderswell is an Integrated Retirement Community (IRC) designed to create a vibrant, connected and supportive space for people in later life. The first phase of the remarkable development was completed in 2022, and is made up of 76 age-appropriate homes alongside extensive communal facilities, including a gym, restaurant, café and wider wellness facilities.

Modern methods of construction (MMC) have been employed at Elderswell to reduce CO2 emissions and waste. The net zero carbon scheme boasts several environmental features, including ground source heat pumps, PV panels, LED lighting, EV charging points, and FSC timber. Enhanced green spaces have been created for residents whilst protecting existing wildlife; ecological enhancements include artificial bat roosting, bird nesting, beehives producing Elderswell honey and hibernacula for reptiles and hedgehogs – creating a welcoming environment for animals.

Andy Reynolds, managing director of Vistry South East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be working with Inspired Villages to build these beautifully designed assisted living apartments at the award-winning Elderswell Village in Turvey.”

“We’re excited to be leading the way in meeting the requirements of those needing this type of accommodation when housing is in such high demand. These much-needed new homes will be built to an exceptional standard to create a thriving and sustainable community.”

Louise Freeman, village manager at Elderswell, said: We are immensely proud of the happy, thriving village we have created at Elderswell so it’s hugely exciting to be growing that community with further phases. In a recent customer satisfaction survey, residents here marked their overall satisfaction at 94.4%. The need for more age-appropriate housing for the UK’s ageing population is significant and we’re proud to be supporting that need in Bedfordshire.”

Work is expected to start on the second phase at the start of January 2025.
