Michelle Motion and Heather Henderson of Springfield Properties

From the top: women’s success with Springfield Properties

On International Women’s Day, we speak to two women about reaching their senior roles with one of Scotland’s leading housebuilders, Springfield Properties.

Michelle Motion, chief financial officer

Michelle Motion of Springfield Properties“After working in the construction industry for 27 years, I’m proud to say that I am now one of a few female executive directors of a listed company in Scotland.

“To become a CFO of a publicly listed company takes a lot of personal dedication. But it also requires a constructive working environment where talents are fostered, and company support is provided.

“At Springfield Properties people get their job on merit, meaning the hard work of both men and women is recognised equally. The company also dedicates significant resources to providing training opportunities to staff, helping them to grow professionally and move up the career ladder. It’s fantastic to see Springfield supporting the future of the business through education.

“We have so many talented females coming through our ranks at Springfield and I’m sure there are many more in the industry too. So, I’m convinced the number in top jobs held by women is set to grow markedly.”

Heather Henderson, group HR director

Heather Henderson of Springfield Properties“I initially joined Springfield Properties as a PA to the directors in 2006, before taking on a new role and forming an HR department within the company.

“During my time with the organisation I have been encouraged to continue into further education. Springfield supported me at every opportunity as I gained a post-graduate certificate in Personnel and Development and latterly a Diploma in Human Resource Management, whist continuing to perform my day-to-day duties.

“As a result of the flexibility and support shown by Springfield Properties I became a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in 2013 and was made group HR director in 2017.”
