Kitchen manufacturer, Symphony, has had its accessible and inclusive collection of kitchens showcased on Channel 4’s ‘George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds’.
The company’s Freedom by Symphony brand demonstrated the life-changing potential of a bespoke accessible kitchen and was created for homeowner Ben White and his family.
Ben, a wheelchair user following a skydiving accident over a decade ago, needed an accessible space to replace his existing kitchen, which was narrow and limiting.
Working with Freedom by Symphony, accessible design consultant Adam Thomas, Moorgate Kitchens designer, Mark Doble, and George Clarke’s production team, the home was transformed into an open-plan environment designed around freedom of movement, functionality and togetherness.
The new Freedom kitchen integrates seamlessly with the dining and living areas, creating a central hub for eating, working, and socialising. Every detail was designed to be both practical and elegant, including a rise-and-fall Corian® worktop with prep sink, dual-sink configuration for ease of use, and advanced NEFF smart appliances operable by voice command or app. The design features Symphony Melrose cabinetry in Merlot Red and Costina Fresca with brass accents, combining accessibility with contemporary style.
Retailer, Moorgate Kitchens played a key role in bringing the design to life, working against the fast-paced demands of television production to deliver the project on time. The result is a space tailored not only to Ben’s needs, but to the whole family’s way of living.
Reflecting on the transformation, Ben highlighted how the design has reshaped daily life: “There’s now enough space in the kitchen for us to be cooking together as a family. We can lower the rise and fall worktop down and me and my daughter can bake. My partner can raise the unit up and we can have multiple people working and cooking food together whilst we’re preparing and cooking food in the kitchen space. The kids can be sitting at the breakfast bar and we can all be social as a family.”
Freedom by Symphony says that it’s proud to have played a role in creating a life-enhancing space and that the project marks another step towards bringing inclusive design into the mainstream spotlight.
