Starship and VELUX partner to deliver communities with sustainability at their core

Starship is on a mission to build better, driven by a passion for purpose and a strong commitment to low-carbon living. Guided by a dedication to the green agenda, the company ensures sustainability is at the heart of everything it does.

Greenleas Close marks another exciting chapter in Starship’s journey, offering gold standard, zero carbon homes to support long-lasting communities. Set to be a standout addition to Wallasey, this development promises modern living in one of the Liverpool City Region’s most promising areas.

Supported by VELUX, Homes England and the Liverpool City Region Brownfield Land Fund, Starship has delivered 13 zero carbon homes for housing association, Onward Homes, across a 64,000 sq ft site.

Bright horizons, shared visions

The three-bedroom homes are to be built with strong eco-credentials, holding an impressive EPC rating of A, improving energy efficiency by 300-400% and helping drive down residents’ energy bills. Greenleas Close is set to be a highly valued addition to the local area, addressing housing needs while championing environmental sustainability.

Manufactured in a controlled factory environment, Starship’s panelised housing system has offered faster build times, minimised construction waste, and is helping reduce the overall carbon footprint of Onward’s housebuilding activity.

Partnering with VELUX has elevated Starship’s marketing by being able to showcase a commitment to quality and sustainability. VELUX products are synonymous with innovation and reliability. By integrating these into their developments, they highlight key selling points for modern, eco-conscious buyers. This collaboration enables Starship’s clients to confidently market properties with durable, cutting-edge features that meet both practical needs and aspirational lifestyles.

Shining light on a powerful partnership
The zero-carbon homes at Greenleas Close are set to be a standout addition to the area, offering residents energy-efficient living as standard – a goal Starship envisioned from the very beginning.

Central to this has been VELUX, a partner that not only understood but fully embraced Starship’s objectives for this project. With their innovative products, VELUX is playing a vital role in delivering homes where sustainability meets comfort for the families who will soon call Greenleas Close home.

Shaping healthier homes with natural light and fresh air

The inclusion of VELUX windows maximises natural light in the homes at Greenleas Close, creating brighter and more spacious interiors. Designed with exceptional thermal efficiency in mind, these windows are key to supporting Starship’s goal of building carbon-neutral homes. Made from high-quality materials with excellent airtightness, VELUX roof windows significantly support the eco-friendly credentials of the properties. Their ability to open also provides improved ventilation, which is especially beneficial during the warmer months, contributing to lower energy bills for residents.

Delivering quality and success

VELUX has been a trusted strategic partner of Starship since its founding in 2020. Over the years, their strong partnership has delivered outstanding results, with VELUX’s pioneering products playing a crucial role in Starship’s success. This collaboration delivers high-quality craftsmanship and continues to help Starship exceed client expectations.

Greenleas Close is Onward’s first development to fully embrace Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), delivering 13 new homes for local people, available through their affordable rent-to-buy tenure.

Dave Dargan, CEO and co-founder of Starship, said: “Starship has meticulously crafted these houses to help provide a lifestyle where every day feels special and zero-carbon living is a priority. At Starship, we pride ourselves on building beautiful homes in the most desirable UK locations and Greenleas Close is no exception.”

Trevor Smith, national housing manager at VELUX, said: “The collaboration on this project has been fantastic, and the inclusion of dormer roof windows has truly elevated the design. They flood the top-floor spaces with natural light, enhance the sense of spaciousness, and provide homeowners with beautifully usable living areas under the roof – combining practicality with a real touch of elegance.”

Sandy Kelly, assistant director of development and sales at Onward, commented: “As a leading North West housing association, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and the new homes at Greenleas showcase an inspiring vision for a more sustainable future in housebuilding.”
