Platform submits plans for 210 affordable homes in Tamworth

Platform Housing Group has submitted plans for 210 affordable homes in Tamworth, including designs that would see more than half the site off Browns Lane to be left as open green space.

Platform first bought the land in 2024 and has appointed established contractor, Lovell Partnerships, to assist in the preparation and submission of the planning application. The two organisations have worked with both Lichfield District Council and Tamworth Borough Council on the designs, ensuring that new residents will be at the forefront of design decisions.

Should planning be approved in the autumn of this year, it is anticipated that work will begin in early 2027.

The social landlord has proposed that it will provide homes across a mixture of tenures, creating opportunities for a wide range of local people through social rent, shared ownership and rent to buy options being made available.

Platform owns more than 50,000 homes across the Midlands and will build another 1,600 in the coming year as it looks to provide secure, warm homes for people who need them most.

Mike Baggett, director of land and partnerships at Platform Housing Group, said: “We are excited to have submitted the Reserved Matters application for this important site in Tamworth as we continue to seek additional land opportunities across our communities. This exciting new scheme represents our growing desire to own the development process, right from initial inception, through to design development and then onto detailed planning approval. This particular submission marks a significant step towards starting on-site and ultimately delivering a range of much needed affordable homes for the local community. We would like to thank Lovell Partnerships for their support in progressing the scheme to this stage.”
