A dedicated employee at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands is celebrating an impressive milestone this year, marking 35 years with the Nottingham-based division.
52-year-old Dawn Mellors first walked through the doors of the company’s Nottingham head office in November 1990 on a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) – and she’s never looked back.
Now PA to the sales and marketing director, Mellors has worked in a variety of roles across the business during her long-standing career, including positions in customer care and construction.
Reflecting on what initially brought her into the industry, Dawn said: “Barratt Homes was offering a YTS position, so I went along for the interview and was offered the job there and then.”
Since joining, she has seen the industry and the company evolve significantly, saying: “When I joined the company, there were no computers or internet. I had a typewriter, and a pen and paper!
“Now every day brings a different challenge, and I work with some amazing people. That’s what’s kept me here for so long – it’s a great company to work for, and I’ve made many lifelong friends along the way.”
Career highlights for Mellors include achieving long service milestones, receiving recognition awards, and being part of two major mergers in the industry. Over the years, she has also grown in confidence, taken on new responsibilities, and progressed through a variety of roles.
She added: “I was promoted from an administrator to a PA and also promoted to customer care manager. I’ve been the PA to the sales and marketing director for the last 15 years now, and the company has always supported me in my development.”
When asked if she would recommend Barratt and David Wilson Homes as an employer, Mellors shared: “Yes, absolutely. It’s a diverse company with plenty of career opportunities, and I would encourage anyone considering a role in the industry to go for it.”
