Hill Group has appointed Brendan Ritchie to the newly created role of Head of Sustainability, to drive the business’ environmental, social, governance (ESG) agenda.
Brendan, who has over 30 years of experience in the sustainability and housebuilding sectors, will support the Group in setting clear ESG targets and publicly reporting on performance.
His role will add impetus to Hill’s strategic priorities on social purpose and energy efficiency standards to tackle climate change, both internally and across the communities in which it operates. This will also include increased use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
Previously, Brendan worked for 22 years at Willmott Dixon where his final role was the Managing Director of a specialist division advising on environmental governance and sustainable development. Most recently Brendan ran a sustainability consultancy, advising developers on technical innovation management and implementation.

The company has a strong track record of building low carbon, sustainable homes, including Agar Grove, Camden, the UK’s largest Passivhaus regeneration project, and Athena, a highly sustainable development in Eddington, the University of Cambridge’s new eco-district in the city. The Group also recently announced a unique joint venture partnership with Bioregional Homes to build low carbon and affordable homes.
