Sean Regan, a site manager for Barratt Homes Manchester has been nominated for a professional award after completing his degree in Construction Management.

Working on the housebuilder’s Nomvula Park development in Knowsley, he has received a nomination for Local Authority Building Control’s (LABC) Construction Professional of the Year Award, having finished his degree at Sheffield Hallam University.

28-year-old Sean was a plumber before embarking on his degree to gain further construction knowledge and broaden his career horizons. He began as a trainee site manager on a development in Liverpool in 2013, being promoted to site manager there in 2015. He started his current role last year.

Sponsored by Barratt, he undertook the degree on a block release basis, alternating full-time site work with periods of time studying at the university for a degree that covers topics such as planning and the commercial aspects of his job.

He said: “The degree has been informative and methodical covering different sectors of the industry we work in and has provided academic knowledge which has further aided my development and career enhancement.”

The quality of his work led to his recent nomination for the LABC Construction Professional of the Year award thanks to his outstanding work at Nomvula Park in Knowsley.

“The past five years have been a fantastic opportunity and the results of my degree show in my progression so far,” he added. “It’s a privilege to have been nominated for LABC Construction Professional of the Year Award and it feels amazing to have been considered for one. I am grateful for the support and encouragement from Barratt Homes in the workplace and academically and I look forward to my future within the company.”

Neil Goodwin, managing director for Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We’re really pleased for Sean and his success so far as a site manager. The sponsored degree is a fantastic way for those considering a career as a site manager and want to progress in their trade. It’s clear from Sean’s recent achievements that it gives employees high-quality leadership qualities.”
