Barratt Redrow’s completions fall 12% in “challenging market conditions”

Barratt Redrow has reported a 12.1% drop in completions while facing “challenging market conditions”, according to its latest trading update.

For the 17-week period from 29 June to 25 October 2026, the Group recorded 3,223, including through JVs, compared to 3,665 for the same period the previous year.

Barratt Redrow’s private reservation rate per week dropped to 0.53 from 0.57 last year, although when including reservations from the private rental sector and other multi-unit sales, the total rises to 0.59 per week.

During the period, the housebuilder saw its average number of outlets rise to 396 from 392 the previous year, excluding JVs, and increase to 406 from 402 in total.

Dean Banks, Chief Executive of Barratt Redrow, commented: “Our trading performance in the first 17 weeks of the financial year has been resilient against a backdrop of challenging market conditions, with continued pressure on affordability. While the underlying private reservation rate has been softer, we have seen stronger demand from the private rental sector.”

“Over the past two months, I have been working closely with colleagues, customers and suppliers to understand our strengths and our opportunities. I have seen first-hand the quality of our people, their commitment to excellence and the passion they bring every day. There is much to build on, and I look forward to sharing more in due course.”

“We welcome the government’s ‘Your First Home’ scheme and its support for first-time buyers. Alongside planning reform, the scheme has the potential, over time, to support increased housing delivery.”

As of 25 October 2026, Barratt Redrow’s forward order book, including JVs, totalled 11,086 homes, an increase from 10,669 from the previous year, at a value of £3.32billion, up from £3.28billion.

Looking ahead, the trading update said that the market backdrop continues to be challenging, as pressure on affordability remains for potential homebuyers.

The statement said that while the Group welcomes the introduction of ‘Your First Home’ to support housing delivery over time, it is too early to assess its impact on first-time buyer activity in FY27.
