Anwyl to start work on first homes at Carrington Village regeneration scheme near Manchester

Anwyl Homes is set to start the construction of 139 new homes in Carrington, an early part of a wider major regeneration scheme.

The homebuilder recently received reserved matters approval to develop a 15-acre site off Manchester Road, to be known as The Meadow.

It forms part of the wider Carrington Village – one of the UK’s largest regeneration schemes, which is transforming the former Shell Refinery site in Trafford, Greater Manchester, into a sustainable new community. The masterplan for the 2,000-acre site proposes 5,000 homes, community facilities and commercial accommodation.

Anwyl worked extensively with Trafford Council’s planning team to incorporate the Council’s design code requirements in its plans. The design-led scheme aims to set a precedent for the remainder of the wider development, both in terms of built form and landscaping proposals.

John Grime, managing director of Anwyl Homes Lancashire, said: “We’re pleased to have secured planning for our section of Carrington Village and are looking forward to playing our part in this landmark regeneration scheme. We’re now eager to start work on-site in the coming weeks to deliver a range of high-quality, bespoke-designed, contemporary homes in a prominent position within the wider new neighbourhood. As a responsible homebuilder, we’re committed to delivering sustainable development. This includes providing a Biodiversity Net Gain of 5.06 habitat units and using photovoltaic panels or air source heat pumps to power the homes.”

The Meadow will offer a choice of two, three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes, with electric vehicle charging facilities. It’s anticipated the first homes at The Meadow will be ready to move into next summer.

John added: “We have a database of around 1,700 potential purchasers who’ve expressed interest in the 139 new homes we’ll be building. Some of them first enquired when we acquired the land, and we’ll be updating them on our progress and our launch plans. Because of the volume of enquiries received we intend to launch off plan from a temporary sales centre this winter.”

Along with new homes, Anwyl will also create public open space for residents to enjoy. Existing mature trees will provide a green frontage and entrance to the site, plus extensive new landscaping will be added to create tree-lined streets leading to two feature pocket parks and a central local equipped area of play.

To support the growth of the new community, Anwyl will deliver a package of investment including around £237,000 for primary education facilities, plus contributions towards a travel plan coordinator and the community infrastructure levy.
