YMCA Derbyshire has announced the launch of a new 60-home development in Derby, designed to provide young people with an opportunity for independent living.
Foundry Point comprises 60 furnished, self-contained one-bedroom apartments in Cotton Lane. First announced in 2023 as part of an Aspirational Housing initiative, the completed development is designed for young people aged 18 to 30 who are in work or training and taking the next step from living at home.
The scheme was developed in partnership with Nottingham Community Housing Association, with funding from Homes England, and aims to respond directly to the growing challenge young people face in accessing the private rental market, particularly those with limited tenancy history.
The scheme will look to prioritise affordability and accessibility, with each apartment offered at £671.66 social rent per month, with broadband and water bills included.
Designed to be energy efficient and easy to maintain, the homes enable residents to live independently without the significant upfront costs typically required when entering the rental market.
The development also benefits from good access to local amenities and strong public transport links, as well as its proximity to major employers, including Rolls-Royce, Alstom and Vaillant, supporting access to employment, apprenticeships and education opportunities.
Gillian Sewell, CEO of YMCA Derbyshire, said: “Many young people are finding it increasingly difficult to access suitable housing in the private rental market, particularly those with little or no previous tenancy history.”
“Our aim has always been to make the transition into independent living much smoother, whether that’s from living at home, with friends, or in supported accommodation.”
“With the right support in place, we expect young people at Foundry Point to be in a strong position to move on to their own homes within one to two years.”

Residents will also have access to support and advice to help sustain their tenancy, ensuring they are equipped to maintain stable housing and progress towards long-term independence.
