Marketing career goes digital for Strata’s Natalie

Natalie Wilson, senior digital executive at Doncaster-based Strata, talks us through her career to date and what she loves about the role with this regional housebuilder.

Please tell us about yourself and your current role.

I manage the social media channels and work with the campaign manager to devise strategic campaigns whilst analysing and reporting on the ongoing performance of the social activity. I am also responsible for maintaining and creating fresh content throughout customer communications on and offline to ensure brand tone of voice is conveyed.

One of our recent research campaigns was on multi-generation homes and the benefits for young people living at home for longer and with parents and grandparents under one roof, which was really interesting to work on.

What education, courses and work experience got you into Strata?

I have a BA Hons in Journalism and a CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing, in addition to over six years’ experience in marketing, particularly in social media and online marketing. I previously worked freelance, managing social media for various clients. I have also worked as part of the in-house marketing team as acquisition marketing manager for SIV.

What were the things that attracted you to the housebuilding industry?

It was more the company that attracted me. Strata seem different to other housebuilders and are much more customer focused. They are advanced in everything; to buy niche edits and in their strategies. They’re also very forward-thinking in terms of marketing and technology which is where I wanted to progress my knowledge and career.

What do you enjoy most about what you currently do?

I love the creative side of the role, thinking of innovative ways to drive the brand online. I also enjoy the positive feedback we get from customers; interacting with them on social media and seeing how they’ve made their new house a home, as well as hearing how great their experience has been with the company reminds me why I chose Strata.

Is there a defined career path ahead or are there some options you might consider?

I never intended on being in marketing, I sort of just fell into it after university, but so far I am really enjoying every aspect of it so I would be happy with any career path that continues in marketing and I am open to options.

Any words of advice to current school/college/university people who may be considering a place in housebuilding?

Do some digging on the company that you’re wanting to work for and make sure their values match yours.
