This programme is designed for you to gain a nationally recognised qualification and offer you a choice of career routes into the construction industry or onto university. The course aims to broaden your knowledge and understanding of the construction industry. In your first year you will study the Subsidiary Diploma progressing to the Extended Diploma in your second year. The Functional Skills English and Maths will be discussed at your interview. Assessments will be carried out through the use of assignments and by externally set projects. The course involves a degree of practical work associated with surveying and the setting out of buildings.
English and maths entry requirements: Grade 4 in English language and in maths.
Plus standard entry requirements: Three GCSEs at grade 4 or above, or equivalent.
Subject specific entry requirements or recommendations: Grade 4 in science.
What can the course lead on to?
You may seek employment or study on a part-time course in construction or civil engineering at national or higher national levels. Previously the majority of students have chosen to progress on to the HNC in Construction at Exeter College. Possible careers would be in architecture, building management and surveying, quantity surveying, estates management, civil engineering or building services engineering. There are also learners taking part in “A Year in Industry Schemes” or progressing straight to university.
