We take our weekly look at some of the appointments and promotions across the housebuilding industry and its supply chain.

Edward McAlpine, Sir Robert McAlpine

Edward McAlpine of Sir Robert McAlpineEdward McAlpine will take over as new chairman of the construction group Sir Robert McAlpine from January 2019. The 40-year-old has served the company for 18 years as an executive partner and succeeds his cousin Gavin McAlpine, who steps down to focus on the group’s renewable energy business RES. Chief executive Paul Hamer said of Ed: “His chairmanship will provide continuity for the business and allow us to build on the strong relationship we already enjoy.”

 

Colin Harvey, Mace

Colin Harvey of Mace Former Jaguar Land Rover senior executive Colin Harvey has been appointed to lead the property consultancy business in the North of England and Scotland for construction company Mace. He brings with him over 30 years’ experience in the construction sector. His career includes times at John Laing Construction and Bovis, along with a consultancy role at Capita, leading a number of business units both in the North and nationally.

 

Two appointments, CIH

Jim Strang and Aileen Evans of CIHThe Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has approved a new presidential team at its recent Annual General Meeting. Jim Strang, chief executive of Parkhead Housing Association, has stepped up from vice president to president, with Aileen Evans, chief executive of Grand Union Housing Group, taking the vice president position. CIH chief executive Terrie Alafat CBE said: “Our president and vice president provide leadership and inspiration to CIH members around the world.”

 

Three appointments, Miller Homes

Miller Homes welcomes Toby Stokes, Matt Rayner and Sam SwiftMiller Homes Midlands has brought in three new apprentices to start their trade skills careers at some of its developments in the region. For their three-year placements, Toby Stokes and Matt Rayner will be working at Charters Gate development in Castle Donington, while Sam Swift will be based at Hackwood Park in Radbourne. The new recruits will combine practical work at these sites with college studies to work towards a recognised qualification and, potentially, a full-time job.

 

Gloria Yang, Origin Housing

Gloria Yang of Origin HousingOrigin Housing has appointed Gloria Yang as finance director, moving from Clarion Housing Group to take over from Chris Trebilcock. Her career has included being director of finance for East Thames Housing Group and a range of roles for Wandle Housing Association, Metropolitan Housing Partnership and Affinity Sutton Group. She is currently an independent member of the Audit Committee for Phoenix Community Housing and a Fellow member of ACCA.

 

Matt Barker, Linden Homes

Matt Barker of Linden HomesThe East Yorkshire division of Linden Homes has a new land and planning director, Matt Barker, who has who has rejoined the housebuilder from another company in West Yorkshire. He had previously worked for the Group from 2007 to 2013. He is on target to achieve site completions on over 1,400 plots by June 2019. Further his career in his field of expertise, he has the opportunity to undertake managing director training and mentoring over the coming years.

 

Miller Mathison, Scottish Property Federation

Miller Mathieson of the Scottish Property Federation Miller Mathieson, who is managing director of CBRE in Scotland & Northern Ireland, is now the new chairman of the Scottish Property Federation (SPF). He succeeds Andrew Sutherland of Miller Homes. He will be overseeing and moving forward the organisation’s established policies on attracting investment in the estate sector, developing relationships with local and national policymakers and encouraging greater diversity in the industry.

 

Henry Heaton, LOWE Guardians

Henry Heaton of LOWE GuardiansLOWE Guardians, the London-based property guardianship company, has named Henry Heaton as operations director. He has almost 14 years’ experience in the property industry, with previous roles at London Central Portfolio, and Knight Frank, where he completed a real estate diploma whilst working as a negotiator. From 2010, he was head of acquisitions at Student Cribs then acquisitions and development manager for private developers.

 

Desariot Ademaj, Fenton Whelan

Desariot Ademaj of Fenton Whelan

Luxury developer Fenton Whelan has announced creative director Desariot Ademaj as head of design studio to work on the company’s developments and private client projects. Initially working in the architectural industry, he then joined a niche design house, working on private apartments in a number of prime developments in London and abroad. He joins a studio that has won numerous awards, Best Residential Design at the 2017 Society of British & International Interior Design Awards.
