Sustainability graduates visit housebuilder’s Devon site

South West housebuilder Baker Estates recently allowed AES Sustainability Consultants (AESSC) to conduct a graduate site visit at its Bee Meadow development in South Molton, Devon, giving their new consultants practical experience of how their work impacts on site.

Jon Bodington, managing director and Ross Elliott, sustainability consultant at AESSC provided a site walk-through to graduate consultants Aaron Moon, Alice Gent, Ella Cowen, Eloise Utley, Melanie Lewis and Kieran Davies.

This allowed the graduates to see all stages of the build process, from foundations to final completion. The timber-frame construction of this site allowed clear visualisation of processes involved in building new homes, how details are put together and how services are incorporated into the build.

Whilst on site, Gregory Lock, general manager at sister company DALTEC demonstrated an air tightness test and toolbox talk. This allowed the graduates to understand fully the process involved in completing an air rightness test, the equipment used and, issues faced on site and how these can be rectified, and ideally prevented.

Of the visit at Bee Meadow, Alice says: “It was really interesting visiting a live site where many of the plots are all at different stages of the building process. It allowed us to gain a greater understanding of the components that make up a build, and gave a clearer view of what affects the thermal performance of the building.”
