Site manager shortlisted for National Safety Awards

The site manager of a major new housebuilding project in West Bromwich has been shortlisted for a national health and safety award.

Ian Fellows, from Sedgley, is one of five divisional site managers in the running for the top accolade in the inaugural Persimmon Homes Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Excellence Awards. The awards were launched last year to celebrate best practice across the company’s 31 regional businesses.

Commenting on the achievement, group health, safety and environment director, Abigail Bainbridge, said: “These awards have been created to recognise those construction teams that consistently deliver safe working environments for those working and living on Persimmon Homes developments.

“We are thrilled to see how Ian and his team in our Central region have fully embraced the ethos of health and safety, both at Phoenix Wharf and on other projects. They consistently demonstrate their dedication to the highest standards of health, safety and environmental care.”

Ian Fellows has been in the construction business since leaving school and joined Persimmon in October 2019.

He said: “It’s very rewarding to be shortlisted for this award. Our company takes health, safety and the environment extremely seriously, so the standard of competition on sites around the UK is very high. It’s not just about preventing accidents while working on site but ensuring the long-term security and sustainability of these environments.”

Having announced a shortlist of five sites for the first annual HS&E Excellence Awards, Persimmon’s panel of judges is set announce the overall national winner in September.

Phoenix Wharf is located in the Swan Village area of Great Bridge, between West Bromwich and Dudley. Just six miles north west of Birmingham, it enjoys excellent communication links throughout the West Midlands and nationally.
