Our client is a highly design led residential Developer who are now looking to appoint a Development Surveyor to join the highly experienced team. 

The role will be responsible for:

  • Preparing tender enquiry lists and packages, including scopes of works
  • Procuring subcontract packages to specification and budget, ensuring all bids are fully compliant and on a ‘like-for-like’ basis
  • Negotiating best value whilst maintaining expected levels of quality and workmanship
  • Following Group procurement procedures
  • Working with the Technical Department to value engineer the development where possible and reduce build cost
  • Working with the Production Department during procurement and throughout the build process to ensure smooth construction and swift conflict resolution
  • Working with the Sales Department to provide costs for additional works as requested by purchasers with due reference to the state of construction of the plot
  • Reviewing, managing and minimising dayworks, variations and other non-productive costs
  • Settlement of final accounts for each trade
  • Providing accurate cost data for future site viabilities and budgets
  • Creating and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with subcontractors through regular liaison, teamwork and information sharing
  • Maintaining an accurate and stable build cost base
  • Forecasting and mitigating cost ris
  • Accurately forecasting cash flow and work in progress
  • Generating accurate payments in a timely manner in accordance with authorisation levels and commercial procedures
  • Liaison with Housing Associations
  • Reporting on cost movements and budgets as required
  • Complying with and promoting Group procedures and Vision statements surrounding sustainability, ethics, etc.
  • Keeping abreast of latest construction methods and technological developments and establish potential for trials
  • Monitoring and giving feedback on subcontractor performance
  • Preparing reports and correspondence as required
  • Ensuring tasks delegated by the Commercial Manager are completed on time and to the required standard and accuracy

The successful individual will have:

  • At least 4 years’ experience as a surveyor within residential construction
  • An established contact network with a wide range of subcontractors
  • Good organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks to a high degree of quality and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external customers
  • First class negotiation skills
