As part of a major £70 million expansion plan, Rockwool has announced the opening of a new corporate and marketing headquarters in Hammersmith, London.
Managing director, Hans Schreuder, will be based at the new headquarters, together with Rockwool's corporate and marketing teams. Schreuder was appointed in May 2007 to oversee the expansion of Rockwool's UK operations to meet growing demand for the company's market leading products and solutions in the UK and Ireland.

Commenting on the move, he said: "Rockwool has aggressive targets for growth in the UK and we see expanding our UK operations to London as a key part of this process.

"In addition to sending a positive message to the industry and investors, it will provide a strong base to lobby UK legislators and regulators, as part of our on-going campaign for greater transparency and clarity in fire safety and wider building regulations."

Rockwool is also currently doubling capacity at its manufacturing facility in Bridgend, South Wales, which will be complete by the end of 2008.

This large-scale expansion programme will include the installation of a third, technically-advanced production line, which will significantly increase Rockwool's capacity and create 110 new skilled jobs.

Six Ironmongery Direct employees showed their 'mettle' by completing the Flora London Marathon.

They raised over £9,000 to fight heart disease and have vowed to continue fundraising until they have collected at least £10,000 for H.E.A.R.T UK.
Leading the Ironmongery Direct - the architectural ironmongery supplier - pack was Chris Clayton who finished the course in four hours and 15 minutes, followed over the next two hours by his five other team-mates.

Chris Bass, who completed the 26 miles in five hours and 51 minutes, says, "I am very proud of the Ironmongery Direct team for their commitment to the cause. They put in so many hours of training and it really paid off on the day. Completing the London Marathon and raising so much money in the process is no mean feat."

Ben Green, Ironmongery Direct's purchasing manager, adds, "I am so pleased that my colleagues made it to the finishing line, helping to raise so much money for a cause that is important to us all. We feel very close to H.E.A.R.T UK as almost one in five of Ironmongery Direct employees have known someone or been directly affected by diseases related to heart problems."

Figures for the year ending December 2007 from Oregon Timber Frame Ltd reveal an increase in turnover of 30 per cent to a record £19.5 million. This growth from the largest privately owned timber frame manufacturer in the UK is well above target for the year.

Oregon produces around 12 per cent of the timber frame requirement within Scotland and is also making progress into the growing English market with blue chip house builders including Taylor Wimpey, Miller, Bellway, Countryside, CALA, Persimmon and Redrow.

Despite price pressures in the marketplace which started in 2006, net margins improved to 4.7 per cent, helped by efficiencies introduced by Oregon in their administrative procedures.

Rod Lawson, finance director of Oregon, commented:

"With existing clients contributing to over half our turnover, it is important that we maintain our high quality of service to them. We are also pleased that our newer customers have significantly increased their amount of business with us, proving that once we have carried out their work successfully, more orders have come our way."

"The big test for 2008 will be to continue to grow despite the tightening market. Recently won new clients such as Bellway in Manchester will help to give a better balance to our customer base. It will be especially important to maintain quality of service and make savings since customers are now looking for cost efficiencies. Finally, we will need to be flexible in our delivery as the market fluctuates."

Gemini Kitchens have just completed what was their biggest contract ever - to supply and fit kitchens and appliances to 1,150 apartments for the Crosby Group at their Clarence Dock development in Leeds.

Gemini Kitchens commenced work on the site in the spring of 2003 and did one phase a year for the first three years, but had to complete the final three phases, consisting of 560 apartments, in just twelve months.

This required a major commitment by Gemini Kitchens, who invested £250,000 in new machinery and created ten permanent jobs.

Managing Director Charles Garratt says " We invested heavily in the business in anticipation of this contract and to be well positioned to fulfil this and all our other client requirements and I am happy to say that we have achieved this and we have had our most successful year ever."

"Managing our growth is critical and we want to build on our success by developing our existing client relationships, working closely with them in keeping abreast of current trends in kitchen design and products and also add to our customer base in a controlled manner."

Clarence Dock is a 15-acre development that is currently transforming the Leeds waterfront next to the Royal Armouries and includes a mix of apartments and offices, combined with first class leisure, entertainment and retail facilities.
