Scotland follows England with innovation bid

shutterstock_137189471 Scottish housing design is set to get a shake up with the launch of the BRE Scotland Innovation Park, due to open in Glasgow today.
Four show homes incorporating the latest green technology will be built on the redeveloped Ravenscraig steelworks site, one of the biggest brownfield schemes in Europe. The BRE hopes to net £2 million in new technology investment for the project, in championing affordable, yet energy efficient design, building on lessons learned at the BRE’s English equivalent park in Watford.

“We see this as an evolving project which will both highlight the innovative work going on in the Scottish construction industry, and challenge companies to develop new solutions to issues the sector will face in the near future,” said BRE Scotland director Rufus Logan.

“From James Wyatt to John Logie Baird, Scotland has for centuries been synonymous with innovation. We want to tap into this rich history and challenge companies working within the sector to develop new solutions to the defining issues of our time.”

The £1.2 billion regeneration of the 1,100 Ravenscraig site will see the construction of a new town centre.

Construction on the BRE site should begin next year, and will be completed by 2010, the BRE confirmed.
