Strong demand for family homes in the east
Demand for family dwellings in the east of England is reportedly growing, despite the general property market slowdown, according to Savills.Savills research reveals that the number of people looking to move up the housing ladder outnumbers those seeking to trade down by two to one.
76% of the respondents in the occupier demand survey expressed a desire to live in a new-build home, with 36% expressing an active preference for modern housing. The general survey consensus was that new homes do not require much maintenance, are energy efficient and are built to meet the needs of the modern family.
Savills report that in response to the rising demand for larger homes, developers such as Crest Nicholson and Hopkins Homes are delivering more family homes in a range of locations across the East of England.
Richard Aldous, head of new homes for Savills Ipswich, comments: “We have seen a rise in demand for good quality homes across the eastern region, specifically in Ipswich. The modern family needs flexible living space in a good location with more and more people wanting low maintenance, hassle free homes. The lack of supply is a problem, though this is down to land availability, and we are seeing developers starting to deliver these homes where possible.”
