Barratt builds on with £94 million Woking project
Barratt Southern Counties is set to build a major £94 million residential scheme in Woking, Surrey. The mixed-use scheme, which will help to regenerate the town, will comprise 456 flats, in addition to office and retail units.
Trevor Sawyer, managing director of Barratt Southern Counties comments: “Barratt is committed to the regeneration of Woking; the re-development of this site is set to significantly contribute to the transformation of this previously neglected part of Woking and form a new gateway to the town from the south. The development process will be completed within six years, but the major works on the Guildford Road should be finished by early 2011, and a new street scene established.”
Demolition work onsite, which currently houses a series of office buildings, has started, the firm reports; a process which will last eight months. The first homes built will be marketed for sale in 2010.
Barratt’s share price dropped by 7% yesterday to 204p, after Citigroup placed seven million of its shares, hit by worries of a weakening housing market, traders have reported.
